I was talking with Michele Prater today. She's trying to grow her business online, and we talked about LinkedIn. She requested a profile review and gave me permission to post. Thanks Michele!
Here are some tips:
- Make your profile image public.
- Create a great cover photo.
- Make your headline clear, easy to read, and impactful
- Have a good About section
- Feature content or links that show what you do.
- Complete your experience.
- Get endorsements from people you've worked with.

❌ My first business was an absolute failure... 🚫
I grew up in a large family. My Dad, a small business owner and entrepreneur, taught me to work hard and dream big. I remember some of my favorite moments with him were talking about business or coming up with new business ideas.
⚡️ When I was 16, I started a business with a goal to sell and install wind turbines and solar panels. I contacted a manufacturer, and even became an official reseller.
😩 I didn’t sell one wind turbine or solar panel.
🙌🏻 That said, I learned valuable skills. I built a website for my little business. Admittedly, it wasn't a great website, but that was the start to the path that I'm still on today.
🤔 Was it really a failure? I guess it depends on how you define success and failure. What metrics do you use to measure them?

🤔 Selling Services vs. Selling Value 🤔
‼️ Spoiler Alert: Selling value is better.
I've been thinking a lot about this lately.
**I’ll use my business as an example:**
I can say that I provide:
- Digital Marketing
OR, I can sell:
- Business growth
- Clarity of vision
- An audience
- More leads
- More sales.
Obviously it’s better to sell value.
There are millions of website designers in the world. If I simply sell websites, my potential clients could literally go anywhere else and receive the same service. Selling value on the other hand lets them know what transformation you can create in their life. It’s much harder for competitors to compete on that.
PS: My LinkedIn headline will be changing soon. I don't think "JMH Media. ⭐️ Creating Brands | 🖥 Websites | 🎙 Podcasts | ✍🏻 Content | 🔥 Digital Marketing" fits my new vision.

🤝 Collaboration is powerful.
🚫Don’t go it alone!
Throughout my life, I’ve had a lot of interests and I’ve been able to learn things quickly. Because of this, I’ve been relatively good at almost everything and It was so easy for me to be a “one man show.” I’m branching out and learning to work better with others, and it’s amazing. Here are some things I’m learning:
💪🏻 Even if you’re good at something, someone else might be better.
🎯 Specialize in the things that 1) you’re an expert in, and 2) bring you joy. Outsource or partner with others for the rest.
👨🏻🎓 When you work with others, learn from them. They’ll have a different perspective and different skills.
📈 Leverage each other’s network and resources.
