🎙 Let's talk Podcasts for a bit… It seems like everyone is starting a podcast right now. 🎙

🦻🏻 70% of Americans have heard of Podcasts (up from 64% in 2018)
🎧 22% listen to Podcasts Weekly
🎙 There are ~750,000 podcasts. Up from 550,000 last year (compare to 23M YouTube channels)
😱 These channels have more than 29 million episodes
🕖 76.8% of podcast listeners listen for more than 7 hours a week
📺 61.2% of listeners spend more time listening to podcasts than consuming TV shows
🧐 80% listen to more than half of every episode.

Is the market overcrowded? Or is there still opportunity?

💭 I’d love to hear your thoughts 👇🏻 :)

Here are my 2 cents. There is a huge market opportunity for podcasts. The listener base is growing rapidly and podcast listeners are incredibly loyal (see above). That said, the more saturated the market becomes, the harder it will be to get ahead. Also, Podcasts aren’t easy. Most podcasts don’t last long. In fact, only 20% of podcasts have released an episode in the past 90 days. If you want to get into the game, be consistent. Your hard work will pay off :).

We started the SuccessQuest podcast a mere 30 weeks ago. I’m proud to say that we’ve been consistent. We haven’t missed a Thursday :).

What Matters Most?

What Matters Most?

🤔 Last night, I had an experience that really made me think about this question.

👨🏼‍💻 I’m always busy working on something. In fact, you could say that I’m a bit of a workaholic. Even when I’m not working, I try to be efficient and productive.

🌙 Last night, my daughter did not want to go to bed. She was making up excuse after excuse, and would say anything to get out of bedtime.

💋 Every time I tried to grab her to take her to bed, she would run to my wife and say that she needed another kiss.

🤗 I kept trying to grab her, but then my wife said something profound. “She’s not going to want to cuddle with me like this forever…”

✅ I was so focused on “completing the task” that I didn’t take the time to BE PRESENT. The thing that matters the most to me is my family, but were my actions reflecting this?

❓ Do your actions reflect your priorities? I’d love to hear your thoughts :)

Trndsttrs "Going Out of Business" Marketing Tactic

‼️ Lets to do something different:
🧐 analyze a marketing tactic from another company.

Last week, Jake Bjorseth of Trndsttrs posted that his company was “for now [….] no more.” Today, after a week of silence, they announced new branding. (links to both posts in the comments)

I've seen opinions, criticisms, and praises of this tactic.

My thoughts:

👍🏻 The Good
Good Marketing creates emotional responses and encourages conversations. This tactic worked. I'm sure Jake and Trndsttrs have had more views and have been more top of mind over the past week. Anecdotally, I’ve been checking Jake’s page almost daily hoping for updates. This was creative, and probably effective. I’m writing about it, aren’t I?

👎🏻 The Bad
Good marketing creates emotional responses and views, but more importantly, it creates trust. This was a potentially dangerous move since some people following Jake and Trndsttrs Media may not trust them anymore.

😧 The Ugly
Honestly, it is a little distasteful because there are a lot of people loosing jobs, and businesses REALLY going under. It’s never good taste to poke fun at other peoples pain.
-

At the end of the day, I’m genuinely curious to see how this turns out. Jake, did this tactic work for you guys? What results did you get.

What do you all think?

Need Some Website Tips?

🖥 Need some website tips? 👍🏻

We just launched a new website for the Self Improvement Daily Podcast.

I was honored when Brian Ford came to me looking to improve the website for his podcast. I've been a long time listener, an I was excited to help with the rebrand and new website launch.

Here are some tips based on the decisions we made:

- Create an attractive catchy header.
- Include a picture of yourself. It provides a human element to the site.
- Break up large sections of text when possible.
- Include social proof on the site.
- Make sure that you have a page featuring each piece of content for SEO purposes.

Let me know what you think of the site. If you have any feedback or ways we could make it even better, don't hesitate to let Brian or myself know.
